Communications: Strategic planning, elections, budgets and community relations

Stanwood-Camano School District strategic plan brochure

Strategic planning

As the Public Information Coordinator for Stanwood-Camano School District, I worked closely with the superintendent, board of directors and district staff to implement and communicate a new eight-year strategic plan for the future.

Election communications

Stanwood-Camano School District placed a Maintenance and Operations Levy renewal on the February 2008 ballot. The District’s prior four-year levy was coming to an end, so the renewal vote was required if the District were to continue to receive 19% of its funding for daily operations (approximately $44 million dollars). I led an information campaign with activities including presentations at community events, PTA meetings, presentations to staff, a handbook and information guide for school administrators, news media stories, op-ed pieces, and direct mail pieces like this Levy Information Piece.

Budget communications

Each fiscal year, I worked closely with Stanwood-Camano School District’s Executive Director of Business to collect data, create visuals and design presentations explaining the District’s complex $60 million budget in a way that is more easily understood by parents and community members.

Community newsletter

I implemented this quarterly 4-page community newsletter for Stanwood-Camano School District to reach all 17,000 homes within district boundaries – especially the 70% that do not have any school-aged children. I took the photos, wrote the content and designed the layout for each edition. View a PDF of the Community Schools newsletter.
